The Marine Mammal Stranding Center offers fun, interactive and educational summer programs in Brigantine and on Long Beach Island, June – August.
Seining: Join our staff at a beach location to learn about fish and other sea life in our bays and oceans. Join in as we net fish using a seine net, study them briefly, and then return them to the water. Some fish will be taken to our outdoor observation tank where they spend the summer, and are returned to the bay in the fall. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to get wet! (all ages)
Beach Walk: Take a relaxing stroll along the beach while learning about the plants and animals that make their homes along our shores. (all ages)
Special Programs (Registration required)
Mock Dolphin Stranding: (ages 7 & up) This is one of our most popular programs! Take part in an adventure as you learn about dolphins and why they strand, then participate in a hands-on mock dolphin stranding on the beach. Be ready to get wet!
Mock Sea Turtle Stranding: (ages 7 & up) (ages 7 & up) Become a stranding technician for the day while you learn all about sea turtles and the reasons they strand. Learn how to help a stranded sea turtle, make observations, take measurements and learn how to help a stranded sea turtle.
Terrapin Day: (all ages) Meet the turtles that walk across our island to lay their eggs every summer. You will see full-grown and tiny hatchling turtles that are being raised to give them a “head start”.
