Education Programs

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center offers a variety of virtual education programs for all age groups. Please note we are currently not offering field trips or traveling education programs.  Please explore our Virtual Education Program options to find the best learning experience for your group.

Learn, Grow and Make a Difference for Marine Mammals and Sea Turtles!

 The Marine Mammal Stranding Center offers virtual education programs for all age groups. These programs are available to be booked by schools, homeschoolers, scout groups, clubs, libraries and other community organizations. Our programs inspire compassion for marine mammals and sea turtles, and encourage stewardship for marine habitats.

Your students will discover:

  • The diverse species of marine mammals and sea turtles that our organization works with
  • The problems facing these animals and their marine environment
  • The role the Marine Mammal Stranding Center plays to help overcome these challenges
  • What each student can do to help the Ocean and the animals that call them home

Discover the types of marine mammals and sea turtles that visit New Jersey and the dangers they face. Learn how the Marine Mammal Stranding Center helps these animals. Students will learn actions they can take to help marine animals and their ocean environment.

Explore the effects of marine debris and plastics on marine mammals and sea turtles. We will learn how trash ends up in the ocean, how long it will stay there, and how students can make a difference. Discover ways to reduce, reuse and recycle to keep trash out of the fragile ecosystem.

Explore the fascinating world of sea turtles through storytelling and crafts! Learn about the life cycles of sea turtles by following Tammy the loggerhead sea turtle on her adventures.  Discover the sea turtles that visit New Jersey and how the MMSC helps them.

Discover the lives of seals through storytelling and crafts! See the world through a seal's eyes as Sandy the precocious harbor seal pup grows up and learns how to fend for herself.  Learn about the seals  that visit New Jersey and how the MMSC helps them.

All About Dolphins!

All About Dolphins!

Learn about dolphins, one of the Ocean's most dynamic species, through storytelling and crafts! Follow the adventures of Danny the bottlenose dolphin as he finds himself lost and in need of help. Discover the dolphins that visit New Jersey's waters and how the MMSC helps them. 

 Activity sheets and craft templates will be sent electronically in advance to allow students and teachers to prepare for the class.

Glimpse into the mysterious lives of the Endangered Right whale through storytelling and crafts! Follow Wendy Whale as she helps her family navigate the challenges that her species faces every day. Discover the diversity of whale and species, and how MMSC helps those that visit New Jersey. 

Activity sheets and craft templates will be sent electronically in advance to allow students and teachers to prepare for the class.   


25 minute program- $50 

PROGRAM DETAILS

Virtual Program Description

Each program includes a PowerPoint presentation geared towards your grade level, artifacts presentation or an interactive craft activity, and time for your students to ask questions. Teachers will use their desired virtual meeting platform and invite our educator into the meeting as a  guest presenter. 


Please note that we are a working rehabilitation hospital, and human interaction with patients in our facility is  kept to a minimum. Virtual programs DO NOT include live animal interactions or live views of current patients in our hospital. 

Program Availability

Virtual programs are available to be scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 9am-3pm. Programs must be booked at least three weeks in advance. Please note that during peak outreach season (April-June) reservations should be made at least one month in advance in order to book your desired date.

Reservations and Payments

Reservations are made via email through the submission form below, at least three weeks in advance. Payment is due upon booking to hold your date. Payments may be made via check or credit card (3% credit card convenience fee applies). Organizations that need to make payments via purchase orders must be approved in advance and submit required documentation in advance to MMSC at the time of booking. We are sorry but we cannot accept purchase orders from schools booking programs after May, programs must be paid upon booking.

Cancellations

Should you need to cancel your program, you will be issued a credit towards a future program or seal adoption for your classroom. No credits will be issued for cancellations less than one week prior to your scheduled program.

Custom Programs

We would be happy to customize a program to suit your class or organization’s specific needs. A customization fee will apply.

Free or Discounted Programs

We are sorry but we are unable to offer free or discounted programs. All program fees go directly to support our rescue and rehabilitation efforts for marine mammals and sea turtles. 


Title 1 schools located in Atlantic and Cape May counties may explore the grant opportunity provided by Sandy Hook Sea Life Foundation. Please view the application at the bottom of the page.

SandyHook SeaLife Foundation Virtual Program Grant

Are you a Title 1 school located in Atlantic or Cape May County, NJ?

The SandyHook SeaLife Foundation has generously provided the opportunity for one virtual program provided free of charge for up to ten Title 1 schools located in Atlantic and Cape May counties during 2023. Program grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply for a free program for your Title 1 school, please fill out the application below.
